What is a Deal Stage?
A deal stage represents a specific phase in your sales pipeline that an opportunity passes through on its way to closed-won (or closed-lost). Stages create a shared language for where deals stand and what actions are needed next.
Common Deal Stages
- Prospecting, Initial outreach, no response yet
- Qualified, Meets ICP criteria, expressed interest
- Discovery, First meeting completed, pain identified
- Demo/Evaluation, Solution presented, actively evaluating
- Proposal, Pricing and terms submitted
- Negotiation, Terms being discussed
- Closed-Won, Deal signed ✅
- Closed-Lost, Deal lost ❌
Why Deal Stages Matter
Clear deal stages enable accurate forecasting, pipeline management, and coaching. Without defined stages, pipeline reviews devolve into guesswork and managers can't identify where deals are stalling.
Common Mistakes
- Having too many stages (7-8 max is ideal)
- Not defining clear exit criteria for each stage
- Letting deals sit in one stage too long without action
How FlowStrata Maps to Deal Stages
FlowStrata operates in the first two stages, prospecting and qualification. We move prospects from "unknown" to "qualified and meeting-booked" so your sales team picks up the deal at the discovery stage, fully warmed and ready.
